What inspires you to creativity? Do you use pictures or prompts to help you blog, paint or write?
If you are undertaking NaNoWrimo, I salute you. Three days in and it already feels like one of the most mentally-taxing things I’ve ever done. I haven’t had time to reply to emails or comments, and I’ve been putting off school-work due on Monday (terrible, I know.) Whatever muse I had on day one has deserted me, and I’m finding creative inspiration through music and photos (and getting by on Pepsi, seeing as my mother’s finished all the coffee.)
The challenge has been an excuse to dig through my old collection of internet-gained photos. Even the ones I haven’t felt inspired by are still fascinating, and I felt like sharing some of my favourites.
I wonder what it is about photos which captures our attention. For me, I love the black and white ones; I love the contrast and the shadows and the overall impression. B&W photography usually seems sad to me, most likely because of the neutral colours.
With music, I get bored after a few replays. But with photographs, well, your imagination doesn’t need to stop. You can look at one picture and see a thousand different stories behind it one day, and two thousand the next. There need be no limit.
And of course, it’s been said before that waiting/looking for inspiration is a time-waster and the best way to create art is simply to do it. I’ve not yet gotten to the stage where I can simply hammer out a few dozen words though. I imagine my posting will become even more erratic than it currently is because of Nano, at least until I organise my time better, though I do want to try to post at least twice a week. Finally, I noticed today that I have 197 followers now; I’m waiting for three more so I can have another celebratory post upon reaching 200. 😉 Good luck to all the other Nanoers and artists out there!

well, there is something to the proverb that you don’t find inspiration, but inspiration finds you. I get a lot of inspiration just closing my eyes and listening to something. Saying that, it doesn’t “work” in a strict manner of speaking, because I don’t do it with the intention of finding inspiration, but to relax and reflect
The only time inspiration finds me like that is just before I fall asleep, and then, well, I fall asleep. 😉 Still, I’m sure I’ll find myself taking the advice and trying to reflect at some point in the next month in the struggle to write 50K.
You write beautifully, so I hope to see many more post from you. these pictures are stunning- pictures like these could be very inspirational. I usually find inspiration from topics I find while surfing around on twtter and get fired up about- want to add more to the conversation.

You are a much braver soul than me for attempting NaNo, so kudos to you! I find my inspiration to write and create everywhere. It’s often hard for me to turn my brain off because everytime something funny or strange happens to me, I start thinking about how I could make it into a blog post. My husband is also a blogger, so he encourages me without even really trying by showing me blogs he’s found or telling me about interesting things he finds online.
Haha, thank you! 🙂 You must lead a pretty interesting life to find inspiration that way. The strangest thing that happens to me in a week is my bus coming early. 😉 And may I just say that it’s awesome that both you and your husband are bloggers? Miss C will be designing websites by five. 😉
It would be interesting to take random photos like this and try and tie them together with a story. That would be a good thing to get the juices flowing…

It would be. I rarely take photos myself, except for times when the sky’s lighting is picture perfect (of course it never comes out right on my useless phone.) Keep the NaNo muse alive and drop ze donuts. 😉 And thanks. 🙂
When I’m blocked, somehow and nothing else work, I do what I like to call a “literary stroll”.
You just write down the very first thing that comes to your mind and you see where it takes you. You just write. Good luck with your novel 🙂 The other one can wait.
Another technique to add to my growing list. 🙂 I tried it once a very long time ago and managed to write about 2000 words, but I’ve never been able to repeat the feat. Nevertheless, it will be tried again. 😉 Thank you! I did mean to get back to you about DP (we haven’t given it a name, have we? xD), so I do apologise for that. >.< Hopefully we can pick up where we left off at the end of November?
